My Writing Of My New College Career - 1374 Words

I could have thought of ten-thousand other places and things I would have rather been doing than writing a paper for a grade. I dreaded the thought of having to set at a desk and listen to somebody telling me something I already knew, I suck at writing. I barely got through high school writing papers and then I find myself thirteen years later and way behind the new curriculum standards facing it again. When I made my schedule this was the only class I really was regretting, because it was the only one I really could not study for to control my grade. I knew it was going to be my most time consuming class and the one that I would want to procrastinate the most in. That saying right there got my attention every time I read it. He went on talking about values and all I could think of ‘What are my values.’ I found myself thinking of my own life when I read his work and thought ‘What would I want to tell the 21st century’ and I knew that’s where I wanted to go with it. I wanted to leave my thoughts of what it was like growing up in the 20th Century compared to the â€Å"horrible† 21st Century. Now, I found out really quickly that my writing process wasn’t so quick and dry and to the point. I seem to do a lot of writing here and then getting a new idea, so I would run with it for awhile and then switch gears again. Lets just say sometimes I ended up with pages of basically notes. It become more of a puzzle and picking out a section here and there trying to piece it together. I ended up with a completed paper that I was not exactly sold if it was an actually persuasive paper. Positive and Normative Accounting Theory

Question: Difference Between Positive And Normative AccountingTheory. Answer: The concept of Positive Accounting theory has been introduced to the world by Watts and Zimmerman. As per As Watts and Zimmerman (1986, p. 7) state, Positive Accounting Theory is concerned with explaining [accounting] practice. It is designed to explain and predict which firms will and which firms will not use a particular accounting method but it says nothing as to which method a firm should use. Through the help of the positive counting theory one can make the predictions quiet easily. This theory can help the management o ensure whether they are likely to use the method for the purpose of the accounting or not. Under the theory, the reality that has been prevailing in the industry is very well observed in this theory. For example: there is relation between certain conditions and the demand of the product. Thus, if the conditions are met the demand of the product is likely to increase and this is regarded as a positive relation. (Watt, 1990) Thus similar way the positive accounting theory has its role to play in the accounting of the firms. Being if all the conditions are satisfied then in that case the theory will be accepted in the form for the purpose of accounting. The logical thinking has a bigger role to play in the selection of the positive accounting theory. Logical thinking backed up by proper experiments and observations let to developing a notion whether the method of the accounting will be accepted or not. By applying the positive accounting theory in accounting, it will help the firm in accepting the accounting theories that are fruitful for the firm else the same will be ignored in normal means. (Fool, 2017) There is difference between positive and normative accounting theory. The positive accounting theory has been used to make correct prediction about the real world and is been used to convert them into accounting transactions. On the other hand, the normative accounting theory tends to recommend to the world what best needs to be done. The management of the company uses the positive accounting theory approach in adopting the accounting policies and standards which is important in determining the survival of the company in the industry. This can well understand with the help of an example: where a company who is engaged in the business of contract based work would prefer adopting an accounting standard that would reduce the contract cost and would increase the profit margin. The management of the company at times of selecting the accounting policy would rotate around three predictions that include bonus plus hypothesis, debt covenant hypothesis and political cost hypothesis. (Markas, 2 002) When the positive accounting theory is compared with the normative theory, it is noted that the latter one is more subjective as compared to the former. The subjective nature is very important in accounting as the same helps in defining the economic future for the investor. In case of normative theory, the researchers tend to use several different approaches to reach out to the conclusions whereas in case of positive, the researchers tend to follow just one approach. At logical front, the normative accounting theory is more deductive in nature as compared to the positive accounting theory. In the normative the work starts with the theory and then the same tends to deduce to specific policies. On the other hand, in case of positive theory, the works starts with specific policies and then the same is converted into high level principles. Both the theory because of the very nature is complimentary and compensating to the loop holes for each other. The positive accounting theory tends to be more practical whereas in case of normative the same is more theoretical. This can be well understood through the help of the below example: Before the financial crisis, the financial securities in case of banks were accounted in a similar manner as compared to real estate and other assets accounting. These other assets and the real estate value were not revalued as per the changes in the current market price of the assets. But after the financial crisis, there has been change in the method of accounting that has been followed in case of financial securities. There has been a consistent decrease in the value of the assets during the period of financial crisis but being the accounting policy that has been followed in by the company there has been no change in the book value of the financial securities as result although the securities has been shown at the purchase price in the books but the same does not carry nay value. Thus after the crisis, the accounting policy of the compan y has been changed to marked to market and the securities were revalued. This change in the accounting policies let to new unrealized gain or loss in the books that derived the balance sheet and profit and loss account to a larger scale. This can be called as a change that has been driven by principle rather than following an existing accounting treatment in the books. Thus on the current example it can be very well stated that the positive accounting theory is more practical and is based on what is actually being happening in the world whereas the normative is more theortical. Sweeney Tod Essays - Sweeney Todd, British Films,

Sweeney Tod Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street Sweeney Todd is based on the 19th century melodrama about a London criminal. Todd is sort of portrayed as a noble figure driven to crime when Judge Turpin takes his wife and child from him. He is unjustly imprisoned and vows revenge not only to the judge, but also to all the people of London. The theater production began with an awesome staging of eeriness to further the mood of the title itself. My attention was captured as soon as the play began. The thick mist gives way to an entire ?underworld? of Londoners. They come out with their gutter costumes and worn-looking faces. In cut-off laconic phrases they sing verses of the Sweeney Todd ballad. The ballad is important to the play. Every time I heard it, it just reminded me of the evil that was on stage. I think this was the purpose of the song--to keep the audience's attention focused on the insanity surrounding Sweeney's killing spree. The band of beggars and street people advance toward the audience in rags and in anger. They are very important in showing Sweeney's personality early in the show. To complete the actors' purpose, Sweeney Todd himself rises from the pits below. His face has evil and revenge written all over it. Sweeney Todd was very convincing with his role. He has one of the most inspired roles, yet it is filled with dark humor. In on scene where he is proceeding to slit throat after throat, a customer comes in with his family. Sweeney just looks on in irritation and frustration. It is hilarious. Sweeney allows the audience to experience several emotions--from horror and disbelief to sympathy and compassion. Although Sweeney is committing murderous acts, he is acting out of the love of his family. His daughter has been stolen from him and his wife's life has been ruined (although he thinks she is dead). Sweeney makes his rage more frightening with the baritone voice, especially in ?My Friends?. This song is a twisted ode to his razors. His pleasure of being reunited with his razors is sort of a weird experience. It is almost as if he is in love with them. Sweeney was very accurate in taking the audience on a thrill ride all the way to the end where he gained the last bit of sympathy in dis covering that he had in deed killed his own wife. Mrs. Lovett was quite the character. She is absolutely wonderful as the cheerful yet lonely bar mistress. She displays her desire to feel wanted and loved bit by bit. However, her plans come to an end when Sweeney discovers her dishonesty about his wife. Susan Boyle plays Mrs. Lovett with a combination of optimism, crafty self-interest, and wit. With the flexibility of the actor-character role, you almost forget about the hideous conduct in which she is involved. Mrs. Lovett's idea is to turn Todd's victims into meat pies. It is laughable, but also spine tingling. She has all the qualities of performing a successful Mrs. Lovett. She has the operatic quality and superb comic timing. Boyle pulls off a terrific performance in transforming such an inhumane act into pure comedy. At the end of the first act, as she and Todd sing ?A Little Priest?, Boyle uses her wit to hint at the usefulness of Sweeney's victims. In Act II when Mrs. Lovett sings ?By the Sea? (a song that indicates her longing to be with Sweeney Todd, while he rants on about Judge Turpin) she is very expressive in both manner and voice. You find yourself caring about what happens to Mrs. Lovett in spite of her immoral deeds. Susan Boyle (Mrs. Lovett) has a wonderful voice; and having to sing while doing five or ten other things at once is quite difficult. Nevertheless, she pulls them off remarkably. Her voice is a noticeable one and you can follow it through any confusion. With all honesty I think the play would have been missing comedy, harmony, and wholeness without her. She was definitely the more memorable character. Judge Turpin was more like the shadow of darkness over the play. He was instantly written off as a man of Sweeney Tod Essays - Sweeney Todd, British Films, Sweeney Tod Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street Sweeney Todd is based on the 19th century melodrama about a London criminal. The Later Years and Last Words of John Adams

The Later Years and Last Words of John Adams Thomas Jefferson still survives. These were the famous last words of Americas second president of the United States, John Adams. He died on July 4, 1826 at the age of 92, on the same day as President Thomas Jefferson. Little did he realize that he actually outlived his former rival who turned into great friend by a few hours.   The relationship between Thomas Jefferson and John Adams started cordially with both working on the draft of the Declaration of Independence. Jefferson often visited with Adams and his wife Abigail after the death of Jeffersons wife Martha in 1782. When both were sent to Europe, Jefferson to France and Adams to England, Jefferson continued to write to Abigail. However, their budding friendship would soon come to an end as they became fierce political rivals during the early days of the republic. When new president George Washington was to choose a Vice President, both Jefferson and Adams were considered. However, their personal political views were quite different.  While Adams supported a stronger federal government with the new Constitution, Jefferson was a staunch advocate of states rights. Washington went with Adams and the relationship between the two men began to wane.   President and Vice President Ironically, due to the fact that Constitution did not originally differentiate between president and vice president candidates during presidential elections, whoever received the most votes became president, while the second most voter became the vice president. Jefferson became Adams Vice President in 1796.  Jefferson then went on to  defeat Adams for reelection in the  significant election of 1800. Part of the reason why Adams lost this election was due to the passage of the Alien and Sedition Acts. These four acts were passed as a response to the criticisms that Adams and the federalists were receiving by their political opponents. The Sedition Act made it so that any conspiracy against the government including interference with officers or riots would result in a high misdemeanor. Thomas Jefferson and James Madison were fiercely opposed to these acts and in response passed the Kentucky and Virginia Resolutions. In Jeffersons Kentucky Resolutions, he argued that the states a ctually had the power of nullification against national laws which they found unconstitutional. Right before leaving office, Adams appointed a number of Jeffersons rivals to high positions in the government. This was when their relationship was truly at its lowest point.   In 1812,  Jefferson and John Adams  began to rekindle their friendship through correspondence. They covered many topics in their letters to each other including politics, life, and love. They ended up writing over 300 letters to each other.  Later in life, Adams vowed to survive until the fiftieth anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. Both he and Jefferson were able to accomplish this feat, dying on the anniversary of its signing. With their death only one signer of the Declaration of Independence, Charles Carroll, was still alive. He lived until 1832.

Humanities - Essay Example The statue of david is a sculpture of a nude man standing and represents the heroic David of the bible. The eyes of the sculpture are turned towards Rome in what looks like a stare of warning. On the other hand, the Pieta depicts the dead body of Jesus on the laps of his mother, Mary. The sculpture portrays a balance of classical beauty and renaissance ideals. Michelangelo’s works were entirely involved in the services of the Catholic Church (Creighton 25). He was a man of pessimism in his poetry and optimist in his artwork. He is considered to be one of the greatest artists and architect during the Renaissance period. His artwork consisted of paintings and sculptures that revealed humanity in its natural state. The renaissance was a period between 1500 and1700. During this period there was a rebirth of interest in the ideas of the classical period. In this period the ideas of Hippocrates and Galen were studied and the four humors become the focus of medical treatments and bloodletting became very popular (Lobenstine 78). Science began in this period (renaissance period) and it changed (got replaced) superstition into medicine. This period also saw the founding of the royal society, in the year 1660, a body of leading scientists. People in this period had to be educated and had to have knowledge in both science and arts like Leonardo da Vinci (Lobenstine 83). He was well known for his art works (like the Mona Lisa) and he was also a scientist and regularly attended dissections. The reformation happened during this period largely as people were thinking about the things around them and were not ready to accept what had always been. During the renaissance period (1517) Martin Luther brought out a list of things that he thought were wrong with the church to a door of a church in Wittenberg in Germany. These ideas threatened the Catholic Church as many people liked them and protested about the Catholic Church, these people came to be known as the Protestants
